T-Jex (The Jewish Experience) is a not-for-profit Jewish supplementary school program for public elementary school students, in grades 1-7. It is a partnership program with Congregation Schara Tzedeck and Shalhevet High School program, providing Hebrew literacy via one-on-one or small group learning with Shalhevet High School students.  T-Jex imparts Jewish values, giving Jewish students access to their culture, heritage and traditions, as well as an nurturing a love for Israel.

The T-Jex concept is going into its sixth year and has proven itself with its sustained success in Vancouver. It has continued to recruit new participants, and to engage not just children but families. It’s unique model, using high school mentors, allows students to make progress, connect with great role models and have fun while attending Hebrew school. We have seen our students continue to be involved in the Jewish community even when they graduate from T-Jex and head into the high school years.  Families with T-Jex students are increasing their engagement within the Jewish community.

The cost for one student is $350.00 which includes all course materials and a light dinner, each week. There is a sibling discount rate - and no child is turned away for lack of funds.

Program Highlights

  • T-Jex is open to all Jewish children in the greater Vancouver area, with no membership necessary. Cost is the same for all children, with no child being turned away due to lack of funds.
  • T-Jex offers a relevant and engaging curriculum in a hands-on and meaningful way.  T-Jex operates in an inclusive and welcoming environment and we strive to cater to children of differing abilities. We work hard to integrate all students, including those with special needs.
  • T-Jex engages the entire family, offering programs for families, as well as a simultaneous discussion group for parents.
  • T-Jex uses multiple modalities, including arts, drama, discussion, role play and more so that students are able to engage and progress.
  • T-Jex students and families are invited and encouraged to participate in community events, and many attend communal Shabbat dinners, holiday programs, Jewish summer camps and more.
