Cantor Yaacov OrzechCantor Orzech’s primary responsibility is to inspire the congregation through music. As one of our Bar Mitzvah teachers, Cantor Orzech’s responsibilities include teaching TAAMIM (tropp-notes for chanting and cantilations) for the Torah and Haftorah; teaching the appropriate blessings; ensuring that the chanting is correct and encouraging Bar Mitzvah students to prepare additional readings from the Torah portion for that Shabbat. |
Cantor Orzech has recorded every Maftir and Haftorah and they are available in the Jewish Learning Centre on our website. He also teaches one to one, anyone who is interested in learning to sing the cantilation notes. Please contact him if you are interested in learning to participate in our services.
“As one of the Bar Mitzvah teachers, I see the Bar Mitzvah experience as part of a continual commitment to the essentials which make up our Jewish heritage and tradition. Literally, Bar Mitzvah means “a son of the commandment”. It is a privilege, a great responsibility and a milestone which requires much hard work and discipline. The requirements for a Bar Mitzvah can be achieved by every student.”
